trying to match up a fitting i pulled off an old hose. is this one the straight male pipe end with 3/4-14 threads for a -16 hose?

It’s a straight crimp fitting with a 3/4-14 male NPTF pipe thread on one end and it’s built for -16 hose size on the other end.

fitting says it works with H277 or H435 hose, does that mean it won't work on other hose types, or is that just where its recommended?

Those two hose types are what this fitting is rated and matched for, specifically H277 and H435. The callout for those hoses in shock hazard environments isn't just a suggestion either, it's part of how the fitting is properly applied. Running it on a different hose series isn't something the product data supports, so sticking with H277 or H435 is the right call for a proper crimp connection.
