got a 3/4-14 male npt port and need to step it down, is this the right bushing for 3/8-18 female?

For a step-down from 3/4-14 male pipe thread to 3/8-18 female pipe thread, that is exactly what this steel pipe-to-pipe bushing is set up to do. End 1 is 3/4-14 male NPTF and End 2 is 3/8-18 female NPTF.

got a 3/4 male NPT port on a manifold block and need to drop down to 3/8 female NPT for a smaller line. this the right piece for that?

That's what this bushing does. The male end threads into your 3/4-14 NPT port, and the female end accepts a 3/8-18 NPT fitting on the other side. It's a straight reducer bushing, so you're not adding a lot of length to the assembly. Steel construction holds up well in standard hydraulic hydraulic connections situations, and it's rated for grease, instrumentation, and most hydraulic system fluids.
