trying to hook up a 3/8 JIC line to a 1/2 BSPP port, is this the right adapter?

For that mix of ends, yes. One side is a 9/16-18 UNF male JIC (3/8 size) and the other side is a G 1/2-14 male BSPP (1/2 size), and it’s a straight steel adapter.
