trying to hook two -12 JIC male ends together, is this the right adapter or am i off a size?

Match it up by thread and seat style. This adapter has 1-1/16-12 female JIC swivel connections on both ends with a 37 degree flare, built to SAE J514, so it’s meant to mate with two -12 JIC 37 degree flare male fittings.

both ends on this thing are the same size, right? just want to make sure before i go putting it in

Correct on both counts. Each end is a 1-1/16-12 female JIC swivel with a 37-degree flare, so you're working with identical connections on either side. Both meet SAE J514 spec, which means they'll pair up with standard JIC male fittings of that same thread size without any mismatch.
