trying to hook two 1/4-18 female nptf ports together, is that what this adapter does?

It connects female NPTF threads on both ends, and both sides are 1/4-18 per SAE J476. If your two ports are 1/4-18 female NPTF, this is the straight female to female adapter for that connection.

Correct on both counts. Each end carries a 1/4-18 female NPTF thread, and both conform to SAE J476. So if you've got male NPTF fittings on each side of that line, this straight adapter should tie them together without any thread mismatch.
