General purpose low and medium pressure hydraulics are the target application here. You will need to use H277 or H435 products if your equipment deals with shock hazards.

fitting says it works on 1 and 2 wire braid hose, does that mean it'll work on either one or do I need a specific crimp setup for each?

Both 1 and 2 wire braid steel hose constructions are covered by this fitting, so you're not locked into one or the other. What matters more is that you're running it on a -08 hose and using a compatible hose like the H277 or H435. No mandrel is needed during installation, which simplifies the process. Just make sure your crimp tooling is set up for the hose you're working with and you'll be in good shape.
