tool don't have any blades on it -- is that gonna cause any issues when i'm using it on hose assemblies?

No blades is actually the point with this one. The release tool works without any cutting edges, so you're not risking damage to the hose or fitting during the disconnect process. That bladeless design is intentional for this type of snap-to-connect work.
