Will this fitting hold up ok if I use it for a propane line on my BBQ pit?

It's made from brass which offers good corrosion resistance. Just be sure to order the special-order version, as the standard adapter is only rated for LP and natural gas, not general flammable liquids.

Does this fitting work for refrigeration lines, or is it strictly a hydraulic thing?

Refrigeration is actually one of the listed applications for this adapter, right alongside hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
