got a fitting with a 3/4-16 JIC end that needs to mate up with a 7/8-14 O-ring boss port, this the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is a male JIC 37-degree flare at 3/4-16, and the other is a male SAE O-ring boss at 7/8-14.
