If I need to swap out a valve on my backhoe, reckon this one would hold up alright?

Designed with a high tensile strength cast iron body, this VS Series selector valve is built for demanding hydraulic applications, so it should be a solid replacement.

SAE-16 ports on this one -- are those the same as 1-inch SAE straight thread fittings, or am I gonna need adapters to hook it up to my existing lines?

SAE-16 is a 1-inch SAE O-ring face seal port size, so whether you need adapters depends on what your existing lines are terminated with. If you're running SAE-16 fittings already, you're good to go straight in. The VS4 model lineup also comes in 3/4 NPT and SAE-12 if your setup calls for something different, but this specific unit is SAE-16 all the way around.
