Product Questions & Answers

running this on a small log splitter setup, what's the max pressure i can push through it before something gives?
Question by: Frank C on Feb 23, 2026, 12:51 PM
Port ratings on the P, A, and B lines top out at 5100 PSI, which is a solid ceiling for most light-to-mid-duty hydraulic work. Back pressure on the return side is capped at 363 PSI, so make sure your return line isn't restricted. For a log splitter application, you've got plenty of headroom on the pressure side as long as your pump and lines are sized to match.

got a 12 gpm pump on my rig, is this valve gonna be the choke point?
Question by: Vince P on May 2, 2025, 2:03 PM
With a 12 GPM flow rating, it is sized to handle that pump flow. Keep in mind it also has a maximum back pressure rating of 363 PSI, so return line restrictions and downstream hydraulic connections still matter for overall performance.

Will this handle typical hydraulic fluid okay, or do I need to use somethin' special?
Question by: Diane L on Jan 25, 2026, 7:37 PM
It's designed for fluid viscosities between 10 and 400 cSt, but it works best if you keep it in the 12 to 75 cSt range. Regular hydraulic fluid should be just fine, but keep an eye on your temps.

got a compact power unit that runs about 12 gpm. is this VDM6 valve sized right for that flow?
Question by: Hubert L on May 28, 2025, 6:21 PM
For flow, it lines up. The VDM6 series is rated at 12 GPM, so a 12 GPM system is within what it is built to handle.

What kind of fluid should I be using in this valve? I've got some different weights laying around.
Question by: Howard E on Jul 8, 2025, 5:38 PM
Optimal performance for this valve is going to be when you're running a fluid viscosity between 12 and 75 cSt. It can handle a range from 10 to 400 cSt, but that's where you'll see the best results.

Running this on a piece of equipment that sees some pretty nasty temperature swings. What's the actual operating range on this valve?
Question by: Rusty W on Aug 9, 2025, 6:12 AM
Ambient temps between -22°F and 140°F are within spec for this valve. Fluid temperature range with NBR seals goes from -4°F up to 185°F. So as long as your setup stays inside those windows, you're in good shape. Just keep in mind that all the technical data was developed using mineral oil at 16 cSt viscosity, so if your fluid runs real thick or real thin, performance can shift. Optimal viscosity range is 12 to 75 cSt, though the valve tolerates anywhere from 10 to 400 cSt.
