got a setup that sees about 12 gpm. is this VD6A working section gonna be the choke point or will it keep up

At 12 GPM, it matches the section’s published flow rating, so it is sized to run at that flow without you automatically outgrowing it. Pressure capability is up to 5100 PSI on ports P, A, and B, and internal leakage is listed at 1.1 to 1.52 in³/min at 2285 PSI.

Can this handle hydraulic oil with a viscosity kinda thick, like up to 400 cSt?

This Salami VD6A series valve section works best with hydraulic fluid that's between 12 cSt and 75 cSt. While it *can* handle up to 400 cSt, you'll get the most efficient performance staying within that recommended range. Going too thick might slow things down a bit.
