fitting says it works with -08 hose, but does that mean any -08 or just specific ones?

For general purpose low and medium pressure hydraulic work, standard -08 hose is what this fitting is built around. That said, if your application involves any kind of shock hazard, you'll want to pair it with H277 or H435 hose specifically. Those are the two hose types called out for shock hazard conditions, so it's worth keeping that in mind before you commit to a hose selection.
