fitting says it works with H277 or H435 hose, does that mean it won't crimp onto other -12 hose types?

For shock hazard environments specifically, H277 and H435 are the called-out matches for this fitting. Outside of those conditions, it's rated for general purpose low and medium pressure hydraulic use with -12 hose. If your application doesn't involve shock hazards, the broader -12 hose compatibility applies, but H277 and H435 are the confirmed options when shock resistance matters.
