what kind of setups is this fitting good for, do i need to worry about pressure spikes

General purpose low and medium pressure hydraulic lines are the right fit for this part. If your system is prone to shock hazards or sudden pressure spikes, you should switch to H277 or H435 instead.

fitting don't need any sealant on the threads, right? or do i gotta put something on there before i install it

No thread sealant is required for this fitting. The flanged connection style handles sealing through the flange face rather than relying on thread engagement, so adding sealant would actually be unnecessary and potentially counterproductive. Just make sure your mating surfaces are clean and the hardware is properly torqued.
