got a push load application running around 17,000 lbs, this cylinder gonna hold up or am I cutting it too close?

At max, this cylinder is rated to support loads up to 17,600 lbs at 2500 PSI, so 17,000 lbs puts you right near the ceiling. Worth keeping in mind that the suggested pushing load figures are based on a minimum safety factor of 2, and long-stroke setups can have lower full extension ratings due to column loading concerns. For a sustained load that close to the rated limit, leaving more headroom in your operating pressure would be the safer play.

How much can this cylinder actually push? Specs say 17600 lb, just want to be sure.

That 17600 lb figure is the rated load, which factors in the cylinder's 2500 PSI maximum operating pressure. So, under normal conditions, it'll handle that load without issue.

got a cylinder spot that can only take 1/2 npt fittings. are the ports on this one 1/2 npt for sure?

Port sizing is straightforward on this cylinder. It uses 1/2 NPT ports, so standard 1/2 NPT hydraulic fittings will thread in.
