fitting says no mandrel required, does that mean I can put this together without any special tooling or press?

For reusable fittings in this range, no mandrel or crimping press is needed. You thread the socket onto the hose, push the nipple in, and tighten it down. Basic hand tools are all that's involved, which makes field assembly a lot more practical when you're not near a shop.
