fitting says reusable but do you still need any kind of thread sealant when you put it together?

No sealant needed on this one. The SAE 45-degree flare swivel connection seals on the flare itself, so adding thread sealant would actually be counterproductive and could contaminate the system. Just make sure the mating flare surface is clean and undamaged before assembly and you're good to go.
