trying to match up an old aeroquip fitting, is 412-2-5S the straight one with 1/8-27 male npt and for a -05 hose?

fitting says it needs a mandrel, is that something I gotta have on hand before I start the job or can I get away without it?

A mandrel is required for installation on this fitting, so you'll want to have the right one before you get started. Trying to install without it can mess up the hose end and cause a poor seal. It's a small thing to track down ahead of time but it'll save you a headache on the job.
