Does this fitting work without needing a mandrel to put it on, or do I have to track one down before I can get it installed?

No mandrel needed with this one. It's a reusable reduced bore fitting, so you can get it on and off without any special press equipment. That makes field replacements a whole lot more manageable when you're dealing with a line that's already in a tight spot.
