i got a 2 inch nptf male port and need to step it down to 1-1/2 nptf female, is this the right bushing?

For stepping down between pipe threads, this bushing is a 2-11-1/2 Male NPTF on one side and a 1-1/2-11-1/2 Female NPTF on the other, so it matches that exact male to female reduction.

does this bushing go from a 2 inch male NPT down to a 1-1/2 inch female NPT, or am I reading the sizing backwards?

You've got it right. The male threads on the outside are 2-11-1/2 NPT and the female port on the inside steps down to 1-1/2-11-1/2 NPT. So you're threading the larger end into whatever you're connecting to, and your 1-1/2 inch line or fitting seats into the female end. Standard reducer bushing setup.

Will this adapter work to connect a 2-11 1/2 male NPT to a 1-1/2-11 1/2 female NPT fitting? Just wanna make sure before I order it.

this adapter's specifically made to do just that, connectin' a 2-11 1/2 male NPT to a 1-1/2-11 1/2 female NPT. It's a reducer bushing, so it should fit the bill perfectly.
