got a line running 1/4 inch NPT and need to tee off with a couple 1/8 inch female ports, this the right piece for that?

That's what this fitting is built for. The male run end is 1/4-18 NPT, so it threads into your existing 1/4 inch line, and both the run and branch on the other side are 1/8-27 female NPT. You get three connection points total in a tee layout, which lets you split off to two 1/8 inch female ports from that single 1/4 inch male inlet.
