what's the thread size difference between the two ends on this adapter? trying to step up from a half inch line to a bigger female port and want to make sure i got the right part

One end is a 1/2-14 male NPT and the other is a 1-1/2 inch 11-1/2 female NPT. So yes, you're stepping up from a smaller male thread to a larger female port, which is exactly what this adapter is built for. Straight configuration, no angle to it, so your lines stay in line with each other.
