got a 1/4-18 male pipe thread on a line, and i need to step up to a 1/2-14 female port. is this the right straight adapter?

For that thread combo, yes. One end is 1/4-18 male NPTF and the other end is 1/2-14 female NPTF, and it is a straight pipe to pipe steel adapter.
