Will this here adapter work for connecting a 1/2" OD tube to a JIC fitting?

This adapter is designed for a 0.5-inch (1/2") tube O.D., so it should work seamlessly with standard industrial tubes of that size.

Does this adapter need any thread sealant or tape when you put it together, or does it seal up on its own?

No tape or sealant needed. The male O-ring face seal end handles the sealing on its own, so you just torque it down and you're good to go. That's one of the advantages of ORFS connections over other thread types.
