trying to hook up an ORB port to a JIC hose end, is this the right adapter or am i mixing stuff up

It bridges two different connection styles in a straight adapter. One end is a 1-7/8-12 male SAE O-Ring Boss (straight thread O-ring) and the other end is a 1-5/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare, so it is meant for going from an ORB port to a JIC flare connection.

i got a hose end that’s 16 JIC male, and the port is 24 ORB. is this the straight adapter that ties those together?

Function-wise, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a straight steel adapter with a 1-7/8-12 male SAE O-Ring Boss (ORB, straight thread O-ring) on one end and a 1-5/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other, which is the common 24 ORB to 16 JIC size pairing.
