what industries is this adapter actually rated for, or is it just a general-purpose fitting?

Eaton Aeroquip lists this one specifically for marine and military use, chemical processing, pulp and paper, food and beverage processing, and offshore drilling. That covers a pretty wide range of demanding environments, so it's not just a catch-all general fitting. If your application falls into any of those categories, you're working with something that was built with those conditions in mind.

trying to hook a 1/2 pipe thread port to a 9/16-18 flare line, is this the right elbow?
