trying to hook a 1/2-14 pipe port over to a 9/16-18 JIC line, is this the right elbow for that?

For a 90 degree turn between those two thread standards, this adapter matches 1/2-14 male NPTF on one end and 9/16-18 male SAE 37 degree (JIC) flare on the other.

got a 1/2 NPT port on a pump housing and need to run a JIC hose line off it at a 90, will this adapter make that transition straight off the port or do I need something else in between?

That connection goes directly port to hose with nothing extra needed. One end is 1/2-14 male NPT and the other is 9/16-18 male JIC 37 degree flare, so you thread the NPT end into your pump housing and attach your JIC hose end right onto the other side. The 90 degree elbow takes care of the direction change in one piece.
