got a tight spot on a line, is this the 90 degree elbow that goes from 1/2-14 male npt over to a 1-1/16-12 male JIC flare?

For a right angle turn, yes. It is a steel 90 degree elbow adapter with a 1/2-14 male NPT end and a 1-1/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare end.

Got a spot on a marine hydraulic line where I need to make a 90 degree turn going from a half-inch NPT port over to a JIC fitting, this the right piece for that?

For that exact transition, yes. The male NPT side is 1/2-14 thread and the male JIC end runs 1-1/16-12 with a 37 degree flare, and the whole thing bends at 90 degrees. So if your port is NPT and you're picking up a JIC hose end, this adapter handles both the thread conversion and the direction change in one fitting. Marine is also one of the listed application environments for this part, so it suits that use case.
