does this adapter need any thread sealant or tape to get a good seal, or is it ready to go as-is?

No sealant or tape needed on this one. The swivel design on the BSPP female side handles the sealing without it, which is one of the practical advantages of British parallel thread fittings over tapered threads. Just make sure both mating surfaces are clean and in good condition before you torque it down.
