got a line running 1/4 NPT male and need to redirect it into a 1/8 NPT male port at a right angle -- this the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is 1/4-18 male NPT and the other is 1/8-27 male NPT, and the 90-degree elbow lets you change direction right at the connection point. Both ends are male threads, so make sure the ports you're connecting into are female NPT on each side. If that matches your setup, this is the right part.
