Built for tying two different JIC 37 degree flare sizes together, it goes from 7/8-14 male JIC on one side to 7/16-20 male JIC on the other in a straight union.

got a #10 JIC fitting on one end and need to step down to a #4 JIC on the other -- will this straight adapter handle that?

That's what this one's built for. One end is 7/8-14 male JIC 37 degree flare, which is your #10 size, and the other end is 7/16-20 male JIC 37 degree flare, your #4 size. Both sides use the same 37 degree flare seating, so the connection stays clean and tight without needing any thread sealant. Straight configuration, no offset, just a direct male-to-male union between those two JIC sizes.
