Got a fitting that's 1-5/8-12 JIC on one end but the component I'm connecting to runs 1-5/16-12 JIC. This here adapter gonna bridge that gap straight through?

That's exactly what this adapter is built for. One end is 1-5/8-12 Male JIC 37 degree flare, the other is 1-5/16-12 Male JIC 37 degree flare, and it runs straight with no angle or offset. Both ends use the same SAE 37 degree flare seating, so as long as your mating fittings match those thread sizes and flare specs, you've got a direct size transition without needing any intermediate hardware.

got a hose end that’s 1-5/8-12 JIC and the other side is 1-5/16-12 JIC. is this the straight union that’ll tie those together?

For connecting two SAE 37 degree JIC flare ends in-line, this adapter is a straight 2027 Series union with a 1-5/8-12 male JIC 37 degree flare on one side and a 1-5/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other.
