Got a brake line on an older piece of equipment running a 1/2-20 inverted flare fitting, but the other end needs to hook up to a JIC -04 line. This the right adapter for that?

That's exactly what this adapter is built for. One end is a -04 Male JIC 37-degree flare, and the other is a 1/2-20 Male 42-degree inverted flare, straight configuration. If your brake line has a female inverted flare port and your JIC hose side has a female -04 seat, this bridges those two without any modification.
