does this fit a 1/4 inch tube line, or is that too small for this fitting?

A quarter-inch O.D. tube is exactly what this adapter is built around. The 7/16-20 JIC thread on both ends pairs with 0.25-inch tube, so if that's what you're running, the sizing lines up correctly on both sides of the fitting.
