trying to hook a british parallel port up to a jic hose, is this the right adapter?

For that kind of hookup, this adapter is made to bridge a 1/4-19 male BSPP connection over to a 9/16-18 male JIC 37 degree flare, in a straight configuration.

This straight adapter is indeed designed to connect a 1/4-19 Male British Parallel (BSPP) fitting to a 9/16-18 Male JIC 37 degree Flare.

got a British parallel fitting on one end and a JIC 37 degree flare on the other side of my hydraulic line, is this the adapter that bridges those two?

That's what this one does. One end is 1/4-19 male BSPP and the other is 9/16-18 male JIC 37 degree flare, straight through with no angle. It's from Eaton Aeroquip's 2063 series, so the build quality is solid. If your line has those two thread types that need connecting, this is the right piece.
