got a busted cap on a 7/8 tube line and need something to plug it off, this the right size for that?

For a 0.88 inch outer diameter tube, yes, that lines up with what this cap is made for. The 1-3/16-12 thread is the standard JIC fitting size that goes with that tube OD, so if your existing fitting is a male JIC 37 degree flare, this cap will thread right onto it and seal it off. No thread sealant needed either, the 37 degree flare seat handles the seal on its own.
