got a hose end with a 1/2-14 female swivel on it, will this adapter let me step up to a 3/4-14 male npt without any goofy angle stuff

Function-wise, it is a straight steel adapter that goes from a 1/2-14 female NPT swivel (NPSM internal pipe swivel) over to a 3/4-14 male NPT (NPTF external pipe). Since it is a straight style, it does not add an angle change, it just changes the thread ends.

Will this adapter hold up in a marine environment? I'm rigging up some hydraulic lines on my boat.

Got a 3/4 male NPT port on a manifold block and need to step down to a 1/2 female swivel connection, this adapter do that?

That's what this one's built for. The male end threads into your 3/4-14 NPT port, and the female swivel end accepts a 1/2-14 NPT fitting. The swivel feature on the female side lets you rotate the mating connection during assembly so you're not torquing your hose or line to get alignment right. Straight configuration, so no angle changes in the hydraulic connections path.
