i’ve got a hose end that’s 7/8-14 female JIC, will this step it down to a 7/16-20 male JIC?

For a straight reducer, it connects a 7/8-14 female JIC 37 degree flare on one side to a 7/16-20 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other, so it is meant to step from a #10 female JIC to a #4 male JIC.

got a #10 female JIC line and need to step it down to a #4 male JIC fitting, this the right adapter for that?

That's what this one does. One end is 7/8-14 female JIC with a 37 degree flare, the other is 7/16-20 male JIC with the same 37 degree flare angle. It's a straight reducer, so it'll make that size transition in a single fitting without any extra pieces in between.
