this adapter, is it built for marine and offshore work, or is that more of a stretch for something like this?

Marine and offshore drilling are both listed applications for this fitting. The Eaton Aeroquip 2071 Series is also rated for chemical processing, pulp and paper, and food and beverage environments, so it covers a pretty wide range of demanding conditions. The 90 degree elbow configuration with a female JIC swivel on one end makes it useful anywhere you need to change flow direction without putting rotational stress on the hose connection.
