got a 1/2 NPT female port on a pump housing and need to swing it 90 degrees over to a SAE straight thread fitting, this the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is 1/2-14 female NPT, the other is 7/8-14 male SAE O-Ring Boss, and the 90 degree elbow lets you redirect the line right at the connection point. The O-ring boss end seals at the thread engagement, so as long as your port matches 7/8-14 MORB, you're in good shape.
