trying to swap out an old elbow fitting, is this one female npt on one end and male jic flare on the other?

You’ve got it. It’s a 90 degree steel elbow adapter with a 1-11-1/2 female NPT (NPTF internal pipe) on one side and a 1-5/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other.

Got a spot on a marine hydraulic line where I need to make a 90 degree turn going from pipe thread to a JIC fitting. This the right piece for that?

For that exact situation, yes. One end is a 1-11/2 female NPT and the other is a 1-5/16-12 male JIC 37 degree flare, and the 90 degree elbow body handles the direction change between them.
