got a 1/4 female NPT port on a hydraulic block and need to tie into a 9/16-18 JIC female line, this straight adapter the right call for that?

Correct on both counts. One end is 1/4-18 Female NPT and the other is 9/16-18 Female JIC 37-degree flare swivel. Both ends are female, so you'll need male threads on whatever you're connecting to on each side. The straight configuration means there's no angle change between the two ports.
