trying to hook up a 1/2-14 female npt port to a 3/4-16 jic line, is this the right adapter?

For that exact thread pairing, it matches. One end is 1/2-14 female NPTF, and the other end is 3/4-16 female JIC 37 degree flare swivel, straight.

Got a hydraulic line on a piece of off-shore equipment that terminates in a 1/2 NPT female port and I need to tie into a JIC 37 degree flare fitting on the other end. This the right adapter for that?

That setup is exactly what this adapter handles. One end is 1/2-14 female NPT and the other is 3/4-16 female JIC 37 degree flare with a swivel, so you can rotate that JIC end during installation without twisting the line. Comes from the Eaton Aeroquip 2242 series, catalog number C1BD33, and it runs straight through with no offset.
