Trying to swap out an old fitting, is this the straight adapter that goes from 1/2-14 female NPT to a 9/16-18 female JIC swivel?

It matches that setup. One end is 1/2-14 female NPTF, and the other end is a 9/16-18 female JIC 37 degree flare swivel. It is a straight steel adapter.

i got a line with 1/2-14 female npt and i need to hook it to a 9/16-18 female jic, is this the right adapter or am i backwards

Function-wise, this one is a straight steel adapter that goes from 1/2-14 female NPTF internal pipe on one side to a 9/16-18 female JIC 37 degree flare swivel on the other. If those are the two thread types and sizes you are trying to join, the ends match what you described.
