got a line running 3/8 female NPT and need to step it down to 1/8 female NPT, this straight union do that?

That's what it's built for. One end is 3/8-18 female NPT and the other is 1/8-27 female NPT, so it bridges those two thread sizes in a straight inline connection. Steel construction, precision threads, and no sealant required right out of the box. Pretty straightforward swap if your existing fittings are NPT on both ends.

For tying two different female NPT sizes together in a straight run, this adapter is made for exactly that. One side is 3/8-18 female NPT and the other side is 1/8-27 female NPT, both female, so it bridges those thread sizes in one rigid coupler.
