Will this adapter work alright for hydraulic systems, like it says?

both ends are female NPT on this thing, right? just want to make sure before i order cause i've been burned before getting the wrong adapter

Correct on both counts. Each end is 1-1/2 inch, 11-1/2 threads per inch, female NPT. The coupling runs straight through with no reduction, so what goes in one side matches what comes out the other. No surprises there.

got two 1-1/2 female npt ports i need to tie together, is this the straight coupler for that

Function-wise, it’s a straight steel adapter made to join two female NPT connections that are both 1-1/2-11-1/2. It’s part of the Eaton Aeroquip 2096 series and is described as an internal pipe to internal pipe straight adapter.
