How tight should I make this when I'm putting it in? Don't want to overtighten it and mess something up.

This adapter should be tightened to the manufacturer's recommended torque specification for NPT fittings of this size. Overtightening can definitely damage the threads, so it's best to consult a torque chart or a qualified technician.
