fitting says -08 hose, does that mean it'll work on a 1/2 inch hose line or is that a different size altogether?

The -08 dash size does correspond to a 1/2 inch internal diameter hose, so yes, that lines up with standard 1/2 inch hose. The thread end is 3/4-16, which is the JIC 37 degree flare swivel connection. Those are two separate measurements, one for the hose end and one for the port end, so make sure both sides of your connection match up before ordering.
