adapter says "for pressures thru 4 light spiral hose", does that mean it won't hold up on heavier spiral hose setups?

That rating is a ceiling, not a floor. The 500025-20S is rated for pressures through 4 light spiral hose, which means it's matched to systems operating within that pressure range. Running it on heavier spiral hose configurations would push it beyond its intended pressure boundary, so you'd want to match the adapter to the hose rating your system actually calls for.
